You might have not heard of Build Your Dreams (BYD) before, but its more than likely that you’ve seen a BYD bus or a truck before. BYD is a Chinese manufacturer that has recently launched their first car in the UK, the all-new and all-electric ATTO 3 model.

The company has over 28 years of experience in battery research and manufacturing, which has enabled BYD to create a unique Blade Battery, which is now among the safest batteries in the world after passing a series of rigorous testing and has surpassed the Nail Penetration Test, regarded as the Mount Everest of battery safety tests. The cobalt-free Blade Battery uses Lithium Iron Phosphate (LFP) as its cathode material, which offers a much higher level of safety than conventional lithium-ion batteries.

Safety

Safety is a big focus for BYD, and all of the ATTO 3 models include a big list of advanced safety features including:

Forward Collision Warning, Automatic Emergency Braking, Rear Collision Warning, Rear Cross Traffic Alert and Rear Cross Traffic Brake, Lane Keep Assistance, Lane Change Assist, and Emergency Lane Keep. In addition, further driver aids include Blind Spot Detection System, Electronic Stability Program, Electronic Brake Distribution, Electric Parking Brake, Antilock Braking System, Automatic Vehicle Hold, Traction Control, Hill Decent Control, Traffic Sign Recognition, Intelligent Speed Limit Information, and Intelligent Speed Limit Control.

In addition to this, the ATTO 3 has scored a Five-Star Rating in Euro NCAP Safety Tests.

Design

The ATTO 3's bodywork has been designed to give the model a sporty appearance while improving efficiency. A variety of vibrant colours and dramatic alloy wheels enhance the look.

Continuous head and tail lights provide the ATTO 3 a style that strongly reflects the brand's design language in addition to offering a broader beam of light exposure, which improves safety when driving in low light settings

The ATTO 3 provides plenty of space within the interior and easy access to the back seats via the large opening doors. With the rear seats folded down, the 440 litres boot can be extended to 1,338 litres, which is ideal for families.

Battery

BYD ATTO 3 has a reassuring WLTP electric range of 260 miles and 351 miles city range with energy consumption as low as 3.98 miles/kWh (WLTP) and 5.13 miles/kWh (city). Charging power is 11 kW AC 3. High performance is also achieved when it comes to recharging. With a 150KW DC charger, the battery can be replenished from 30% to 80% in just 29 minutes. Overnight charging from an almost empty battery to full range can be completed in just 6.5 hours. BYD ATTO 3 (all three trims) is also equipped with VtoL so external devices can easily be charged by the car battery.
