Audi A1 Sportback
Starting from £222 per month
The Audi A1 has firmly established itself as the ultimate supermini - the essence of democratic down-sizing. This second generation A1 Sportback is smarter, more efficient and better-equipped - and remains a seductive package for small car buyers. Luxury makers often cut corners to drive down the cost of their smaller models and it shows. Not Audi. In any form you choose, this A1 Sportback will always feel reassuringly expensive. The A1 has sharp looks, decent practicality, nimble handling, punchy engines and impressive economy. This is a good hatchback that buyers will be very happy with.
Mercedes-Benz EQA Hatchback
Starting from £449 per month
There's lots you might like about the EQA. It is, after all, a very Mercedes-style package, with a feeling of cabin elegance, sophistication and quality that many competitors struggle to match. Mercedes has long needed a relatively affordable all-electric family hatchback. BMW has its i3. Audi has the Q4 e-tron, Volkswagen has the ID.3 and ID.4. Plus there's the Ford Mustang Mach-E, the Skoda Enyak iV and the CUPRA el-Born. So, Mercedes has pulled out all the stops to bring us this EQA. It is a very Mercedes-style package, with a feeling of cabin elegance, sophistication, and quality that many competitors struggle to match.
Ds Ds 3 Crossback Hatchback
Starting from £237 per month
The DS 3 Crossback is hardly inexpensive but in compensation it's a satisfyingly desirable take on small SUV motoring. The design is individual, the cabin feels special and it's well equipped. Plus the combustion engines are willing and economical - and there's the option of full-electric technology if you want it. This is the car that should really move the DS brand forward.
Suzuki Swace Estate
Starting from £231 per month
The Swace combines a 1.8-litre, 102bhp engine with a 53kW electric motor and delivers drive through a CVT gearbox. Whilst not scintillating, performance is acceptable with a 0-62mph time of 11.1 seconds, whilst top speed is pegged at 111mph. Combined, the engine and electric motor offer a relatively seamless driving experience, where three driving modes can be selected - 'Normal', 'Eco' or 'Sport'. The driver can also select a fully electric 'EV mode' for those times when completely silent, or emission-free, running is preferred, such as for inner city work, or even early morning starts.
Ds Ds 7 Crossback Hatchback
Starting from £329 per month
Charismatic, elegant and satisfyingly rare, the DS 7 Crossback does indeed bring something different to the upper class part of the mid-sized SUV segment. It's an interesting confection this, relatively conservative in its overall exterior shaping but extreme and individualistic in its Gallic cabin demeanour. The DS7 comes with the DS Active Scan' setting fresh standards. It is able to anticipate bumps and undulations before you even get to them, allowing the Crossback to waft over things like potholes and speed humps with silken ease.
Vauxhall Corsa-e Electric
Starting from £247 per month
Visually, this electric Corsa is virtually identical to the combustion-engined version, with the exception of different alloy wheel designs. The Corsa-e will play a key part in democratising the idea of a supermini EV. And that makes it a very important car indeed. The vehicle should achieve a 222-mile range before it needs a charge. In terms of charging if you’re using the 7kW wallbox you'll need to get installed in your garage as a Corsa-e owner, a full charge from empty will take seven and-a-half hours. If when you're out and about, you find a public 50kW Rapid Charger, the replenishment time to charge from 15 to 80% is 45 minutes.
