Leasing FAQs

What is Leasing?

Leasing is fixed-term rental agreement that allows you to use a vehicle for a set period of time at a pre-agreed fixed monthly price. At Evans Halshaw Leasing we have a large variety of cars and vans available for PCH and BCH.

What are the differences between Personal Contract Hire (PCH) and Business Contract Hire (BCH)?

PCH is a product that is available to everyone over the age of 18 and in position of a full UK Driving License (subject to you being approved for finance). PCH is similar to BCH, the major exception being that on PCH you are unable to reclaim any VAT.

BCH is for business car leasing customers (Limited Company, Partnership, or Sole Trader) only. You can reclaim up to 50% of VAT on cars and up to 100% of VAT on commercial vehicles on BCH agreements.

On rare occasions, some manufacturers may choose to give enhanced terms to business customers only. This can result in a different in price between personal and business prices other than VAT.

Is Road Tax included in the price?

Yes, Road Tax is included for the duration of the contract

What in an initial payment?

The term ‘initial payment’ refers to the first payment of the contract. It is not a deposit; the initial payment helps determine how your monthly payments will be thereafter. The higher your initial payment, the lower the monthly payments and vice versa

When is my initial payment taken?

Your initial rental is taken by direct debit approximately 7-10 days after delivery. Your first monthly payment is taken 30 days after delivery. Initial rental payments are not due until after delivery has taken place.

How long can I lease a vehicle for?

The majority of our lease deals are available between 24-48 months. Occasionally, we might have a special offer on outside of these parameters.

If you are looking for something outside of these parameters please call 0333 323 7070 and speak to one of our Relationship Managers

What is included in a contract?

All lease contracts include the following:

  • Full manufacturer’s warranty
  • Road Tax
  • Breakdown assistance (as per the manufacturer warranty)
  • Free UK mainland delivery and collection
  • What is not included in a contract?
  • The below are not included in a lease contract:
  • Motor Vehicle Insurance
  • Any additional Insurance products (i.e. GAP Insurance)
  • Maintenance and servicing. These are not included as standard; however, we do have packages available

Can I make amendments to my contract?

Changes to your contract whilst it is live will be a decision made by the finance company who is providing the lease. If you need to make any amendments to your contract (i.e. contract length, annual mileage) then please contact your finance company directly

How soon will I get my vehicle?

If your vehicle is a stock deal/special offer, delivery usually takes place approximately 3 weeks from the point of order. If the vehicle is a factory order the lead time can differ as this would depend on the manufacturer and the specification of the vehicle. You will be advised of the lead time by your Relationship Manager before being proposed for finance, before placing your vehicle on order, and then continually updated throughout the build process by our Consumer Administrators

Can I add maintenance to my lease vehicle?

We can offer a maintenance package on the majority of our vehicles when an order is made.

What is included in a maintenance package?

A lease or contract hire agreement with maintenance included covers:

  • All tyre replacements as a result of fair, wear and tear
  • The cost of scheduled servicing and associated costs
  • Consumable items such as brake discs, batteries and exhausts (subject to reasonable wear and tear).
  • Where applicable, the cost of the MOT
  • Breakdown cover
  • Any repair to the vehicle as long as it is not as a result of damage, abuse or mis-use.

What is not included in a maintenance package?

  • Any damage caused by driver damage or misuse

  • Any replacements or repairs required to any body glass

Are there any restrictions on leasing a vehicle?

Anyone under the age of 18 will not be able to lease a vehicle. Anyone who is not in possession of a full UK Driving License will not be able to lease a vehicle. All leases are subject to a credit check, anyone who fails a finance application will not be able to lease a vehicle.

We are also unable to assist the following businesses: Taxi’s, Chauffeurs, and Driving Schools. This is due to the fact we cannot lease to anyone intending to use the vehicle for ‘Hire and Reward’

Where will my vehicle come from?

All our vehicles are distributed either directly through manufacturers, or via franchised dealers and preparation centres

Will I own the vehicle at the end of my contract?

The finance company is the registered owner and keeper of the vehicle so when the lease contract comes to an end you will not own the vehicle. At the end of the agreement we will come and collect the vehicle from you

Do you take part-exchange?

Unfortunately we don't offer a part-exchange service directly, however we would recommend Evans Halshaw Sell Your Car

When will I receive my vehicle registration?

Your vehicle registration number is allocated once the vehicle arrives in stock. This will be in your delivery confirmation email along with other details you may require for insurance purposes.

How does the delivery booking work?

The Administration Team will send you an email offering you a delivery date for your vehicle as soon as it arrives in stock and is ready for delivery. Once you have provided your preferred date and delivery address, delivery will be booked and confirmed in writing.

How do I sign my finance documents?

Every finance house has different documentation and methods of signing the paperwork. You will receive a guide on how to complete your paperwork when it is requested, but please don’t hesitate to email us at ehladmin@pendragon.uk.com if you’re experiencing issues.

My car registration does not exist on my insurer’s website?

Most new cars are not registered until the day of delivery and a registration search will not show your vehicle in the insurance database until after delivery as a result. However, you do not have to wait until the day of delivery and can insure your vehicle by providing the full vehicle specification your insurer so that they can find the vehicle manually.

How soon can I have delivery?

The Sales Team will have advised you of a delivery estimate for your vehicle. Once the supplying dealership has confirmed your order, they will provide us with a more specific delivery estimate from the factory. We will keep you informed of any changes to your expected delivery estimate.

Once my vehicle arrives in stock how long will delivery be after this date?

If your mandatory two week cooling off period has passed, then delivery will typically be offered from 8 days of your vehicle arriving in stock.

At what point on the day of delivery will my vehicle arrive?

The dealerships transport company are responsible for delivery anytime between 09.00-17.00 on your day of choice. Whilst a specific time slot cannot be provided, the delivery driver will call you an hour prior to delivery.

What does ‘in stock’ mean?

In stock means that the vehicle has been built and is either being shipped to the UK or is already in country. In stock vehicles can typically be delivered in 3-4 weeks (this includes your 2-week cooling off period from the date of signing your finance agreement).

Can I collect the vehicle myself?

All new leasing vehicles come with free mainland UK delivery to your nominated address. Unfortunately, collection is not an available option as the vehicles are typically stored at ports on arrival to the UK, rather than dealerships across the country.

What is the value of my vehicle for insurance purposes?

Most insurance companies have new vehicle values available in their systems. However, please contact one of the team if you are required to provide this information and we’ll be happy to help.

Can I extend my lease agreement?

This depends on your finance provider and their extension policy. Please email the team onnewcar@evanshalshawleasing.com and we will be able to advise if you can extend your agreement, the process and cost to do so.

How do I terminate my current agreement with you before its due to end?

Please email newcar@evanshalshawleasing.com with your registration and current mileage, a member of the Sales Team will ask your finance house for an Early Termination Quotation and provide this to you.

Post-delivery FAQ’s

Do you offer a maintenance package post-delivery?

Maintenance packages need to be taken at the point of order and prior to the vehicle being delivered.

What condition must I hand my vehicle back in?

The vehicle must be returned with no more than the normal level of fair wear and tear. We work to the BVRLA fair wear and tear guide, however please note that different finance companies can set their own level of wear and tear guidelines

Can I put my cherished plate on my vehicle?

It is possible to place a personalised number plate on any of our vehicles. Please advise your Consumer Administrator once the order has been placed and we can advise the process and costs depending on which finance provider you are using

Can I take my lease car abroad?

Yes, however you will need to make the finance company who are funding your vehicle aware of this. You will also need to ensure you have all the correct documents to comply with the country legislation

Can I hand my vehicle back earlier than agreed?

If you were looking to hand back the vehicle earlier than your contract duration you would be required to pay an early termination charge. It is not possible to give an estimate of this amount as the charge is based on a percentage of your remaining monthly rentals, how many miles you have covered, and the market value of the vehicle at the time the request is made

When will I receive my V5?

All leased vehicles are owned by the finance company, therefore you will not receive a V5 document.

If you require a V5 for a parking permit, please email your finance company or taxation@pendragon.uk.com if you are a Close Brothers customer.

Can I change my mileage/terms once the contract starts?

Once a vehicle has been delivered and the agreement has started, a contract amendment would be required to change the parameters on your lease agreement. It is important to note that any changes in your contract are under the discretion of your finance company. Please get in touch with our team at Evans Halshaw Leasing if you require to make changes.

Will I receive spare keys?

Typically, new cars are delivered with 2 keys in line with the manufacturer's handover of a brand-new car.

Is there an option to insure my car through EHL?

Evans Halshaw Leasing cannot provide motor insurance, however we do work with finance companies that provide car lease packages where insurance can be included.

Will the car already have a full tank of petrol/diesel?

Your new car will be delivered via the supplying dealership and will typically arrive with some fuel. Please be aware that the majority of vehicles are driven for delivery rather than transported. This is at the discretion of the supplying dealership.

When are my services due?

Services are necessary in line with the manufacturer’s requirements and are typically required once a year. You can contact your local franchise dealership to check any service dates or requirements, Evans Halshaw Leasing do not hold any service information.

Where can I service my vehicle?

Your new lease car will need to be serviced in line with the manufacturer’s guidelines. Please consult your finance paperwork and local franchise dealer for servicing information.

Who do I speak to with regards to purchasing my vehicle?
